2014 IIA Internal Audit Certification Awards



Winners of prestigious annual awards hail from across the globe

From New York to Italy, the Netherlands to Singapore, the winners of this year’s Institute of Internal Auditors Certification Awards reflect the global scope of the internal audit profession.

The annual awards recognize the top three scores achieved on The IIA’s Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination, the highest student score on the CIA, and the high score in each of four specialty examinations: Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA).

“The IIA takes great pleasure in announcing these awards each year, as they salute internal audit professionals who have excelled to some of the highest levels of the profession,” said IIA President and Chief Executive Officer Richard F. Chambers, CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA.  

Alessandro Segalini, IIA–Italy, is the winner of the 2014 William S. Smith Gold Medal Award, given to individuals achieving the highest score on the CIA examination. He will be awarded a commemorative plaque and a complimentary registration to The IIA International Conference.

The William S. Smith Gold award is named for the IIA’s first Chairman of the Board of Regents (now Professional Certification Board) and former IIA Chairman of the board. 

Alberto Aimola, IIA–Italy, is the winner of the 2014 Hans J. Spoel Silver Medal Achievement Award, given for the achievement of the second highest score on the CIA examination. The winner receives a commemorative plaque which will be presented at a ceremony by his local institute.

The Silver Medal is named for A.J. (Hans) Spoel, The IIA’s Chairman of the Board in 1990- 1991 and longtime Chairman of the Board of Regents (now Professional Certification Board) from 1994-2003.

Mark de Jong, IIA–Netherlands, is the winner of the 2014 Kurt Riedener Bronze Medal Award given for achieving the third highest score on the CIA examination. The winner receives a commemorative plaque, which will be presented by his local institute.

The Bronze Medal is named for Kurt Riedener who has served as a local chapter certification chair, global committee member, and participant on various sub-committees supporting the growth and expansion of the global certification programs.

Laust Helmig, IIA–New York Chapter, is the winner of the 2014 Glenn E. Sumners Student Highest Achievement Award.  The winner is awarded a commemorative trophy and complimentary registration to The IIA International Conference.

The student award is named for Dr. Glenn E. Sumners who worked tirelessly over a span of 25 years with students at the Louisiana State University in the United States.

Those achieving the next 10 highest CIA examination scores will be awarded Certificates of Excellence, and those posting the following 50 highest examination scores will be awarded Certificates of Honor.

The specialty certification award winners for 2014 are:

Annalena Baer, IIA–Norway, CCSA Highest Achievement Award;

Emily Durbin, III–Springfield (IL) Chapter, CGAP Highest Achievement Award;

Ryan Gibbs, New York–Chapter, CFSA Highest Achievement Award;

Min Li, IIA–Singapore, CRMA Highest Achievement Award.

 

Each specialty certification award winner will be presented with the award and a complimentary registration to a designated IIA conference.
