Former SEC Chief Accountant Lynn E. Turner Joins LECG's Forensic Accounting Practice


Noted authority on governance, financial reporting, and auditing standards, and veteran advisor who worked on troubled institutions during S&L crisis; Mr. Turner has deep expertise in SEC investigations and corporate governance that bolster the global capabilities of LECG’s forensic accounting practice

Former SEC Chief Accountant Lynn Turner has been named senior advisor and managing director in the forensic accounting practice of LECG, a global provider of independent expert testimony and analysis, original authoritative studies, and strategic advisory services. During his tenure at the SEC, Turner was a leading advocate of auditor independence rules and international accounting and auditing standards, and has been a sought-after speaker and advisor on corporate governance and financial regulatory issues.
As chief accountant for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 1998 to 2001, Mr. Turner gained a reputation as a strong advocate for greater oversight rules. He was also instrumental in the issuance of the SEC Concept on International Accounting, which emphasized the need for high quality financial reporting on a global basis. It also called for a restructured International Accounting Standards Board.

With 30 years of business, regulatory and academic experience, Mr. Turner is a noted expert on financial reporting requirements, corporate governance standards, and economic risk. Prior to the SEC, he spent 20 years with Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers), where he was national SEC review partner and head of its national high technology audit practice.

At LECG, Mr. Turner will work in the San Francisco office. He joins LECG following five years with Kroll Zolfo Cooper’s forensic accounting and litigation consulting practice.

A graduate of Colorado State University with a B.A. in business and accounting, Mr. Turner earned his M.A. in business and accounting from the University of Nebraska. In his varied career, he has also served as a chief financial officer, board director of companies and investment funds, and a faculty member and director of the Center for Quality Financial Reporting at Colorado State University. He received the SEC Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 1999 and 2000. Married with three grown children, he lives in Broomfield, CO.
