Weaver Promotes James Flatt

Weaver, an independent certified public accounting firm in the Southwest, has announced the promotion of James R. Flatt, CPA, to the Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Tax and Strategic Business Services effective June 1, 2011.
 
Flatt, who joined Weaver with the expansion into the Midland/Odessa market and the merger with Elms Faris, brings a long history of leadership experience to this position.

Lawler, Weaver’s managing partner and CEO. “We are fortunate to have such a qualified, dedicated and talented leader as James. He continually strives to lead our firm and guide the Tax group to make our goals a reality.”
 
Flatt has more than 19 years of public and private accounting experience. His practice concentration is consulting and tax compliance for individuals, corporations and partnerships. He serves a variety of industries including oil and gas, state and federal taxation, export businesses, farm and ranching and manufacturing/wholesale distribution.
 
Flatt earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Abilene Christian University and is a member of Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Weaver’s Tax and Strategic Business Services group provides a full range of tax compliance and planning services to businesses and individuals, including representation before the IRS and other taxing authorities; compensation planning; trust and estate tax return preparation; IRA distribution planning; stockholder (buy/sell) reviews; federal and state tax credit reviews; inventory and LIFO studies; cost segregation; business acquisition and sale strategies; choice of entity; 1031 tax free exchanges; FAS 109 compliance and net operating loss utilization .

Originally founded in 1950 as Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P., the firm does business as “Weaver” and currently employs more than 400 employees, including approximately 350 accountants and professional staff.
 
The firm represents a broad range of clients including large national and international corporations, publicly and privately held businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government entities. In addition to the firm’s assurance, tax and advisory services, its accountants and consultants practice in the areas of business valuation; estate planning/wealth transfer; forensic accounting; international services; property tax; state and local tax and transaction advisory services. It also performs peer reviews for other accounting firms.
