Financial Executives International (FEI), the leading professional association for Chief Financial Officers and other senior financial executives, announces the availability of a new Internet-based ERISA fiduciary governance training course designed exclusively for retirement plan fiduciaries and plan service providers. The course is available to trainees immediately at www.FEI.org.

The goal of the FEI/Denali training course is to elevate fiduciary conduct to the highest levels and protect the fiduciaries and the company?s Board of Directors,? said Colleen Cunningham, President and CEO of Financial Executives International.

The course was developed for FEI by Denali Fiduciary Management Corporation of Seattle (Denali FM), an advisory firm serving the fiduciary governance and training needs of corporate retirement plan sponsors, and the interests of retirement plan participants. The course is a video-based, interactive risk management tool that provides an in-depth look at corporate executives? fiduciary requirements, individual and corporate responsibility and liability, and a best practices approach to plan governance policies and procedures.

The knowledge gained from the training will: (1) illuminate dysfunctional behaviors that generate liability; (2) illustrate the fiduciary connections between ERISA and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act; (3) provide examples of a highly effective governance structure; (4) provide solutions for the systematic documentation of procedural prudence; (5) allow for a higher quality of fiduciary decision-making, and; (6) once completed, reduce executive and Board member exposure to fiduciary liability risks.

The training was developed based on Denali?s Fiduciary Assistance & Compliance Systems? (FACS) the first comprehensive and systematic solution to ERISA fiduciary governance and retirement plan management.

Given the recent financial scandals and vendor investigations, the underperformance of the equity markets over the past few years and the expected low returns in the coming years, the rules for managing a retirement or 401(k) plan have changed from the way we all knew them during the 1980?s and 1990?s,? said Denali Chief Executive Officer Wayne H. Miller, AIFA, co-author of the course and the FACS program.

Fiduciaries need a concise, comprehensive and easy to use source of information on their governance practices and responsibilities related to their company?s retirement plan. FEI?s new course provides that opportunity. ?The course was designed as a convenient, low-cost solution which gives fiduciaries an independent view and insight into best fiduciary practices without reliance on existing vendor relationships where conflicts of interest may exist,? said Miller.

The FEI/Denali training is a web-based, video course showing real-life challenges faced by the executives who manage a retirement plan and includes changes in plan management that are consistent with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act as they apply to ERISA retirement plans.

During the course, several interactive quiz sections review the knowledge gained from the presentations. The training is designed to be completed in 4-5 hours with the trainee?s ability to start and stop the course at will. The course is recommended for all retirement plan fiduciaries as well as plan advisors and members of the legal, accounting, investment and retirement plan service provider communities. It is the only course of its kind 30 years after the introduction of the ERISA legislation. A video sample and registration is available at www.fei.org/erisa.
